Fisk and Crawford Coal-Fired Power Plants Shut Down

Chicago’s last two operating coal-fired power plants close, following a lengthy advocacy campaign led by Respiratory Health Association and its Clean Power Coalition partners. The Fisk and Crawford plants in Chicago’s Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods were the two single largest sources of air pollution in Chicago and emitted thousands of tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) every year, contributing to asthma attacks, emergency room visits and premature deaths.
