Collaborations

Respiratory Health Association engages with community members, researchers, health professionals and elected officials to address the unique challenges and opportunities to reduce disparities in lung disease and improve patient outcomes. We have a long and successful history of participation in community-centered research that aims to improve outcomes for children and adults living with lung disease.

RHA currently serves on executive committees of research collaboratives, participates in school health advisory councils, and co-chairs chronic disease prevention efforts within Healthy Chicago 2.0, the City’s strategic plan to improve health equity by achieving health and well-being for all. We have also recently led patient and stakeholder engagement activities and served as a principal investigator for collaborative research efforts looking at health outcomes for pediatric asthma in Chicago.  Below are summaries of some of RHA’s recent and ongoing participation in lung disease research collaborations.

CHICAGO Plan

Coordinated Healthcare Interventions for Childhood Asthma Gaps in Outcomes (CHICAGO) PLAN was designed to improve the health of children with uncontrolled asthma. It is a research study to compare traditional emergency department care with enhanced care and home-based interventions to learn which produces the best outcomes for children. The CHICAGO Plan spans Chicago’s south and west side neighborhoods, which are the hardest hit by asthma.

CHICAGO Collaboration II

Coordinated Healthcare Interventions for Childhood Asthma Gaps in Outcomes (CHICAGO) Collaboration II (U34) is a city-wide collaborative to complete a community needs assessment and develop an evidence-based, multi-sector asthma care model to address pediatric asthma where children live, learn, play and receive medical care for high-risk children in Chicago.

The PARtNER Model

PATient Navigator to rEduce Readmissions (PArTNER) is a transitional care model for Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) that aims to increase support to patients with one of several chronic diseases, including COPD, and their caregivers at the hospital through their transition home.

the PELICAN Study

The PEer-Led o2 Info-line for patients and CAregivers (PELICAN) study tests whether an O2 infoline for patients and caregivers will increase supplemental oxygen adherence and improve health in people with COPD.
