August 27, 2024 – Chicago, IL – Respiratory Health Association is proud to announce the election of Khalilah Gates, MD, to the Board of Directors. A noted educator, researcher, and published author, Dr. Gates has collaborated with RHA numerous times in the past. Most recently, Dr. Gates served as the editor of the Inspiration newsletter and advisor on the Women Empowered though COPD Awareness and Respiratory health Education (WECARE) campaign. As a member of the Board of Directors, Dr. Gates will play a crucial role in helping mold the strategic direction of RHA and help ensure RHA stays at the forefront of health education and medical research.
“Growing up on the West side of Chicago, I was raised with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, ‘everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.’ It is the end of that quote ‘everyone can serve’ that has been my North Star for my career in medicine,” said Dr. Gates. “Joining the RHA board will allow me to serve members of the RHA community through education. My appointment to the board is an honor and privilege and serve and I am committed to helping RHA uphold our dedication to community lung health.”
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Gates to RHA’s Board of Directors,” said Rob Anderson, RHA President and CEO. “Her clinical expertise and leadership will be a great asset to our organization.”
Dr. Gates currently serves as Assistant Dean of Learning and Academic Performance and Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Education at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Additionally, she serves as Medical Director of Diversity and Inclusion Education at NM Academy and Medical Staff Attending at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
